On March 6th 2019, eight of St. Martin’s finest mathematicians headed to Keele University to take part in a ‘Maths Feast’ – a competition pitting a number of schools from the West Midlands area against each other.
Upon arrival we discovered the competition was to be held in Keele Hall, one of the oldest buildings on the campus and an impressive foreboding presence. There were 21 teams involved and our eight pupils made up two of those teams.
The Mathematics was fiendish, with no calculators allowed! Each round was structured differently to shift focus from independent work to collaborative work and although neither team finished in the top three, St. Martins school was one of only three schools at the event to be recognised for our impressive level of team work, something that fits the ethos of our school perfectly.
Overall pupil conduct was exemplary, teacher pride was high and the Maths was very, very tasty.
