Careers education at St Martins School

Careers Education at St Martins School

Its never too early for our students to think about what they may want to do after leaving school.

Parents are key to young peoples’ decision-making. We encourage parents and carers to use the information provided on these webpages with their children. We maintain regular communication with parents about careers events and opportunities via parentmail, through discussions at parent evenings and at the annual careers fair. Parents are welcome to contact our independent careers adviser directly, and can request an individual appt if needed.

We are part of the ‘Enterprise Adviser Network’, a national programme to improve careers guidance, underpinned by the Gatsby Benchmarks https://www.gatsby.org.uk/education/focus-areas/good-career-guidance  with the help of business volunteers.  You can find out more here: https://www.careersandenterprise.co.uk/

Our Careers Leader in school is Hannah Weaver and we currently have a vacancy for an  Enterprise Adviser.

Gemma Evans is our independent careers advisor and she has one to one meetings with every year 11 student.

School arranges for local post 16 providers to meet with students, arranges visits to local post 16 colleges and students have individual careers guidance. Look at the document below called Careers Policy and Provider Access for information about planned activities and events!

Year 7-11 have log ins to a great web site full of resources for careers called START— the students are able to produce and manage their own portfolio of  research, experience  and talks that have helped them with the career choices. This fantastic resource will also move with them to college so they can continue to benefit . For example, it includes tools such as job suitability profiling and an online record of achievement; as well as content including job profiles, apprenticeship vacancies and course information for all post-16 and 18 providers. It is particularly useful when looking at GCSE options in year 9.

We encourage parents to have a look at this great resource with their child.

Students should peak to Ms Weaver or Ms Ellis for their login to 'START' -

One of our  fantastic events is our annual careers information fayre.

We host our annual careers information fayre - lots of local companies make themselves available to speak to years 9, 10 and 11.
